What Pinoys do for Love

Since a very long time ago, people have searched for the meaning of love. But even the great philosophers with their profound definitions could not fully touch its true essence.  Maybe it depends upon the people who may feel it.   But whenever i here about love, i have this concept that lingers in mind, “When Tatang (my grandfather)  is about to take a bath, his towel and clothes are already prepared by “Nanang” (my grandma). And no one of them will start to eat, if one of them isn’t around yet.  For me that’s love.  Considering the long time they live together, the sweetness does not changed.
We Filipinos have different ways to show our love to our beloved ones. During those early times way back my lolo and lola days, harana is practiced.  Harana, also known as Habanera Filipina is a Philippine serenade which derived its rhythmic element from the Spanish Tango or Habanera.  While the Spanish version has a lively seductive tempo, the Filipino version is romantic, lyrical and slow.  Examples of harana are “O Ilaw,” “Bituing Marikit,” and “Alaala Kita.” Originally composed as a vocal/piano piece.  It has been transcribed into different instrumental combinations including the rondalla.
Filipinos indeed possess a creative mind that they were able to create a poem to express their emotions through writings especially when they were not vocal of what they really feel.  Normally Pinoy become too shy in front of the one they admire.  Timeless presents for every woman are roses and chocolates, and other confectionary.  For those who have greater budget for courtship, they avail for a romantic out-of town trip like Puerto Galera.  Some do fireworks trick for their love proposals.  Last news I’ve heard was a marriage proposal through an LCD projector in MOA (Mall of Asia) Billboard. Other just spends time for dinner date at high class restaurants. Or maybe just visit a movie house.
The most famous “Lovapalooza”  is a traditional Valentine’s Day celebration that first bid to claim the Guinness World Record for the Most Number of Simultaneously Kissing Couples for 10 seconds last 2004.  Couples from all over the country are gathered together for the biggest and most romantic kiss fest in the Philippines.  From then, Lovapalooza became a tradition.
Encouraging words are a great way to show your affection.  It may be a simple compliment when you notice a new shirt.  Tell your significant others that you appreciate the things that he/she does for you and acknowledge the things that make you happy.  Talk about partners when they aren’t present, telling people how wonderful you think they are.  When they hear that you have been speaking highly of them, they may feel even more loved than if you had said the same kind of words to their faces.
Love is a two way process. It should be a give and take.
Oftentimes, your busy schedules drain you. Spending quality time together puts deposits in your emotional accounts and encourages your partner while giving you both time to unwind.  But what is important is our loyalty and fidelity for our partner.... for richer or for poorer, till death do us part.
